About the Recipe

This sweet-smoky slow-cooked brisket is one of Momma Green’s most requested family dinners — the kind that fills the house with that “something’s been cooking all day” smell and brings everyone to the table without being asked twice. Finished in a rich chili-brown sugar glaze and served over creamy mashed potatoes with tender green beans and a ramekin of the pan juices for dipping, it’s a cozy comfort-meal classic that practically demands a slice of warm Leaven Heaven French Bread to soak up every last drop.

Ingredients

4–5 lb beef brisket

½ box brown sugar

¼ of a 4oz bottle liquid smoke

1 whole bottle chili sauce (I use 12oz Heinz Chili Sauce typically, but have used Burman's Chili Sauce from Aldi as well - turned out the same)

3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Preparation

Crock Pot Method (Recommended for Busy Bake Days):

Place brisket in crock pot. Add liquid smoke, Worcestershire sauce, chili sauce, and brown sugar. Cover and cook on LOW for 8–10 hours until fork-tender. Slice on the diagonal before serving.

Oven Method:

Preheat oven to 250°F.

Place brisket in a large baking pan. Pour liquid smoke and Worcestershire sauce over meat. Cover tightly with foil and bake 1 hour per pound.

One hour before done, spread brown sugar evenly over the brisket, then top with chili sauce. Return to oven uncovered for the final hour to form the sweet-smoky glaze.

Slice on the diagonal before serving.
