About the Recipe

Golden slices of our artisan sourdough are transformed into a cozy breakfast classic—soaked in a lightly spiced custard, griddled until crisp at the edges, and finished with maple syrup, fresh blueberries, and a soft dusting of powdered sugar. Comforting, simple, and made to linger over.

Ingredients

½ loaf Leaven Heaven crusty sourdough bread, sliced thick

5 eggs

1 cup coconut milk

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon cinnamon

6 tablespoons ghee

Preparation

  1. Whisk the eggs, coconut milk, vanilla, and cinnamon together in a wide bowl until smooth.

  2. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt a bit of the ghee.

  3. Dip each slice of sourdough into the custard, letting it soak just long enough to absorb without falling apart.

  4. Cook in batches until deeply golden and crisp on both sides, adding more ghee as needed. Serve warm.

Leaven Heaven Notes

Perfect with maple syrup, fresh berries, powdered sugar, or a swipe of salted butter. Extra dreamy with toasted coconut or caramelized bananas.

Pro tip: This recipe is especially delicious with our Cinnamon Swirl Sourdough, which adds built-in cinnamon flavor and a touch of sweetness. When using Cinnamon Swirl Sourdough, you can slightly reduce the cinnamon in the custard if desired — it already brings plenty of flavor.
